Aumenta la mortalidad en Venezuela mientras rescates se ven obstaculizados por falta de equipos

Según AP News, dos terremotos de magnitud cercana a 7 sacudieron el oeste de Venezuela cerca de Caracas, provocando derrumbes y evacuaciones. El Servicio Geológico de EE.  UU. registró el primer sismo de 7,1 y, minutos después, otro de 7,5 de magnitud.

BBC informó que los temblores, evaluados en 7,2 y 7,5, devastaron edificios y las autoridades advirtieron sobre réplicas y alto riesgo de víctimas. The Guardian señaló que Estados Unidos, Cuba, Irán y varios países europeos ofrecieron ayuda tras el desastre, que ya había causado al menos 164 muertos. CBS News indicó luego que el número de fallecidos subió a al menos 188 y alrededor de 1 500 resultaron heridos, mientras la escasez de equipos pesados dificultaba las labores de rescate. NPR y The New York Times confirmaron que la cifra de muertos alcanzó los 589, miles resultaron lesionados, se declaró estado de emergencia y la falta de maquinaria obstaculizó los rescates pese a la asistencia internacional.
