Full "Strawberry Moon" to appear on June 29 after summer solstice

Résumé

The first full moon of the season, known as the Strawberry Moon, will be visible on June 29, following the June 21 summer solstice.

The summer solstice on June 21 marked the start of the season, and the first full moon of summer is set to rise on June 29. Often called the "Strawberry Moon," the lunar phase gets its name from Native American traditions that linked it to the ripening of strawberries and other June berries. The Haida people refer to the same event as the "Berries Ripen Moon." Astronomers advise observers to seek locations with minimal artificial lighting and to monitor local weather forecasts for cloud cover that could obstruct the view.

"To get the best view of the full Strawberry Moon, find a spot away from light pollution and check the forecast for heavy cloud coverage or storms," a local broadcast spokesperson said.
