Supergirl audience rating outpaces critic score as box-office outlook remains uncertain
Rotten Tomatoes shows a 77% audience rating for Supergirl, considerably higher than its 58% critic score, while analysts assess the film’s potential box-office performance against other DC releases.
The new DC film Supergirl has received a 58% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, placing it below earlier entries such as Superman and other recent DC projects. In contrast, audience members have given the movie a 77% score, a 19-point difference from the critic rating.
The audience rating still trails Superman’s 90% but is comparable to other DC titles; for example, Black Adam earned an 87% audience score despite a 39% critic rating, and The Flash received an 81% audience rating. Based on these figures, Supergirl ranks within the top 15 DC movies by audience approval.
Box-office analysts note that the film’s $175 million budget sets expectations for earnings well below the $200 million loss reported by The Flash. Projections suggest Supergirl could reach around $300 million worldwide, which would be less than half of Superman’s total but higher than The Flash’s performance.
Industry observers say word-of-mouth could influence the film’s financial results, especially as it competes with releases such as Jackass: Best and Last and the second-weekend run of Toy Story 5, which opened domestically with $159 million. The film’s performance may also affect expectations for upcoming DC projects, including Clayface slated for release later this year.
