US Grants Temporary Waiver on Iranian Oil Sanctions as Trump Issues Warning

Summary

The United States issued a 60-day waiver allowing Iran to sell oil in dollars, while President Trump cautioned Tehran against violating the cease-fire agreement.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced a 60-day waiver that temporarily lifts sanctions on Iranian oil, permitting sales in U.S. dollars for the first time in decades. The move follows recent talks aimed at ending the months-long conflict between the two nations.

President Donald Trump told reporters that if Iran fails to honor the cease-fire or behaves contrary to the agreement, he will take whatever action is necessary.

Iran’s foreign ministry rejected U.S. Secretary of State JD Vance’s claim that Tehran would permit nuclear inspectors back into the country, stating no new commitments have been made on inspections.

Iranian chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Iran intends to manage the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law and hopes to restore normal shipping traffic to support the regional and global economy.

Separately, U.S. officials announced Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain to discuss the interim agreement, regional security and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
