Meta unveils $299 smart glasses without Ray-Ban branding

Summary

Meta introduced a new line of smart glasses priced at $299, featuring adjustable fittings, expanded AI capabilities and a collaboration with Kylie Jenner, while dropping the Ray-Ban brand to lower costs.

Meta announced a new series of smart glasses that will be sold starting at $299, about $80 less than its previous Ray-Ban-branded models. The lineup includes three styles – the Adventurer, the Fury and a Kylie Jenner-designed version – each offered in multiple colors and with prescription options ranging from –12 to +2.25 diopters.

The devices retain the same internal hardware as the recent Ray-Ban Meta Optics models but add a slightly longer battery life, adjustable nose pads, bendable temple tips and over-extension hinges for a better fit on a wider range of faces.

"We just feel like we need to have a pair of glasses at a lower price point, and we were trying to figure out what could work there," said Alex Himel, Meta’s vice president of wearables.

Meta said the glasses will launch with Muse Spark, an AI model from its Superintelligence Labs, which supports 14 additional languages and offers features such as live translation, turn-by-turn navigation and a dynamic photo mode that selects the best shot from multiple frames.

The company acknowledged ongoing concerns about privacy and facial-recognition misuse. Himel said Meta is working on updates to address tampering and to develop consistent privacy standards across regions, noting that regulatory differences could affect product development.

EssilorLuxottica, which helped design and manufacture the frames, remains listed inside the temple of each model, confirming its continued involvement despite the removal of the Ray-Ban brand.
