CFL blocks Brendan Sorsby signing after NFL supplemental draft cancellation
The Canadian Football League announced it would not register a contract or place quarterback Brendan Sorsby on any team's negotiation list for the 2026 season, echoing the NFL's earlier decision. NBC Sports reported that the NFL's deadline for supplemental draft applications had passed, after which the league began reviewing petitions. ESPN and The New York Times said the NFL decided not to hold a supplemental draft in 2026, leaving Sorsby ineligible because of his NCAA gambling violations.
Yahoo Sports and USA Today reiterated that no supplemental draft would be conducted that summer. Two days later NBC Sports noted that legal analyst Jeffrey Kessler saw little chance of a lawsuit from Sorsby. Finally, NBC Sports reported that the CFL confirmed it would block any contract or negotiation-list placement for Sorsby for the upcoming season.
