Man dies after falling from balcony at Madison Square Garden concert
A 51-year-old Connecticut man fell from a balcony during a Goose concert at Madison Square Garden and was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital; authorities say he appeared intoxicated.
A 51-year-old Connecticut man fell head-first from a balcony in the 300-section of Madison Square Garden during a Goose concert on Saturday night and was pronounced dead after being taken to Bellevue Hospital. Witnesses told police the man, identified as Paul Kueker, appeared intoxicated and crossed a four-foot glass barrier shortly before 10 p.m., causing him to land on concertgoers below. Several of those individuals sustained minor injuries, officials said.
Kueker, who was celebrating his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife, was unconscious after the fall. His wife, seated three sections away, was unaware of the incident until authorities informed her, believing he had simply stepped away for a bathroom break.
The New York City medical examiner’s office opened an investigation, including a toxicology report, to determine the exact cause of death. Madison Square Garden expressed condolences, stating it was awaiting the police report and that its thoughts were with the victim’s family and friends. The band Goose also released a statement offering sympathy to those affected and thanking emergency personnel for their response.
