South Carolina police locate body matching missing trainer's clothing
Authorities recovered a body wearing the same attire as personal trainer Elena Katherine Moore, who vanished after leaving a gym in Lexington, and are awaiting coroner confirmation.
Police in Lexington, South Carolina announced Wednesday that a body recovered in a wooded area was dressed in an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants matching the description of 39-year-old personal trainer Elena Katherine Moore, who disappeared after leaving Planet Fitness on Thursday night. Surveillance footage showed Moore exiting the gym at 9:17 p.m. and heading toward a wooded section behind a nearby Lowe’s store.
Investigators later expanded the search to a forested area near Lakeside Middle School, about a mile from the gym, where the body was found, though the exact location and time of discovery have not been disclosed. A coroner’s examination is pending to confirm the identity.
Moore’s husband, Brannon Slice, reported her missing on Friday and was not considered a person of interest. He described the disappearance as “very out of character.” Earlier footage from a residential complex captured Moore appearing disoriented as she rummaged through food deliveries and mail packages, prompting a homeowner to note her confusion.
Friends noted a recent decline in Moore’s online activity, which was unusual for someone who frequently used social media. Police continue to seek information from the public and have asked the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to assist with the ongoing investigation.
