FBI says it foiled alleged plot against White House UFC event
The FBI disclosed that a multi-state investigation led to the arrest of several individuals suspected of planning attacks on a UFC fight held at the White House.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced Tuesday that it had disrupted a suspected scheme to target the UFC America 250 event held on the White House South Lawn on June 10. According to FBI Director Kash Patel, law-enforcement partners across several states acted on a tip that led to the detention of five suspects and prevented the alleged plan from being carried out.
Investigators said the plot involved the use of explosive-laden drones and snipers to attack the crowd, followed by a second wave intended to breach the White House gate. The threat was reportedly uncovered after a family member reported concerning statements made by a relative, prompting authorities to monitor communications on a Signal chat platform.
An Ohio resident was arrested early in the inquiry, and additional arrests were made as the investigation progressed. The Secret Service confirmed it had worked closely with the FBI and indicated that further details would be provided through court filings.
The event, which coincided with President Donald Trump's 80th birthday celebrations, drew thousands of spectators. The alleged plot follows recent security incidents near the White House, including a shooting at a checkpoint and an earlier attack on a journalists' dinner.
"We worked closely with the FBI throughout this investigation," Secret Service Director Sean Curran said in a statement.
The FBI described the operation as a routine response to threats against large public gatherings.
