LAPD releases body-camera video of fatal dog shooting in Canoga Park

Los Angeles police officers shot and killed a two-year-old mixed-breed dog during a welfare check in a Canoga Park apartment after the animal allegedly charged them, ABC7 Los Angeles reported. Officers were responding to a noise complaint at the condo when they entered the unit, and police said the dog was released from the apartment before it lunged at an officer, Los Angeles Times reported. The officer fired four shots, killing the animal, and the incident quickly drew public criticism. City officials and animal-rights groups called for a review of the department’s use-of-force policies.

The Los Angeles Police Department later uploaded an edited body-camera video that shows the officer firing the shots, ABC7 Los Angeles reported. The footage, released to the public, prompted the department to launch an internal investigation and the mayor to pledge a thorough review, NBC Los Angeles said. Police indicated they would assess whether the force used was justified, and promised to make findings available.
