Los Angeles County health officials are investigating a confirmed measles case involving a traveler who was infectious while passing through Hollywood Burbank Airport and a nearby Thrifty rental-car facility. The exposure window at Gate A4 of the airport was between 8:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. on June 17, and at the rental-car location from 9:20 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. on the same day, as well as from 10:25 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. on June 18.
"Anyone who was at the airport gate or rental-car site during those times may have been exposed and should monitor for symptoms," a county health spokesperson said.
People who have previously received the measles vaccine or who have had the disease are considered protected, though officials advise them to watch for any signs. The incubation period for measles ranges from seven to 21 days; those who remain symptom-free after that period are no longer considered at risk. The monitoring deadline for exposures on June 17 is July 8, and for June 18 exposures is July 9.
This is the seventh measles case reported in Los Angeles County this year. Health officials continue to assess additional possible exposure sites and will notify affected passengers through local health departments.
