Knicks clinch first title in over five decades, city celebrates with parade
The New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, securing the franchise’s first championship in more than five decades, BBC reported. The victory ended a 53-year title drought for the team. Celebrations erupted across the city, drawing Hollywood figures and former presidents, The Hollywood Reporter noted, while Yahoo Sports reported clashes with police, a shooting and dozens of arrests during the festivities.
A ticker-tape parade marched from Battery Park to City Hall, drawing thousands of fans and celebrities, The Guardian described. The mayor, Zohran Mamdani, delivered remarks and presented the Knicks with the keys to the city, as detailed by the New York Post and The Ringer.
