Brazilian authorities order demolition of Limeira bridge after fatal bungee jump
According to NBC News, 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas died after being thrown from the abandoned Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, São Paulo, when instructors failed to attach a safety rope. Yahoo reported that six people linked to the operation were arrested, while BBC and The Daily Beast noted that three men were taken into custody on homicide charges. The New York Times added that the rope-jumping activity was conducted without a safety harness, prompting authorities to investigate the incident as reckless homicide.
Ynetnews later said three extreme-sport instructors were formally charged with manslaughter in connection with the death. Subsequent reports, including one from the New York Post, indicated that municipal officials decided to demolish the abandoned railway viaduct to prevent further accidents.
