Florida Supreme Court Upholds GOP Congressional Map Despite Anti-Gerrymander Amendment
The Florida Supreme Court declined to block the congressional redistricting plan drawn by Governor Ron DeSantis, allowing it to be used in the upcoming congressional elections despite a voter-approved constitutional amendment banning partisan gerrymandering, Democracy Docket reported. The decision left the Republican-crafted map in place while any further challenges were considered. NBC News later reported that the court denied a voting-rights challenge to the new districts.
By rejecting the lawsuit, the court confirmed that the maps would remain for the upcoming elections. The ruling thereby upheld the redistricting effort supported by the state legislature and the governor.
