Hong Kong police and the Independent Commission Against Corruption announced that they had filed manslaughter, fraud and related charges against seven individuals and two construction firms. Later, Associated Press detailed that the fire struck Wang Fuk Court, killing 168 residents. The authorities said the suspects included architects and engineers from Will Power Architects and Prestige Construction & Engineering. The filing marks the largest criminal case linked to a single housing disaster in the city.
