Severe storms bring hail, wind and flood risk to central U.S.

The U. S. National Weather Service warned that heavy rain and strong winds could trigger flooding for up to 88 million people across the Midwest, northern Plains and parts of the South. According to CBS News, the forecasts highlighted the risk of widespread inundation as the storm system moved through the region this week.

The agency also issued flood watches for the affected areas. Subsequent reports from NBC News noted that the same system was expected to produce destructive hail, damaging winds, possible tornadoes and additional flood threats to millions across the central Plains, the Great Lakes region, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. The National Weather Service’s outlook described the event as a multi-day storm bringing heavy rain and severe weather across a broad swath of the central United States.
