NCAA Files Appeal Over Texas Tech Quarterback Brendan Sorsby's Eligibility

The National Collegiate Athletic Association has lodged an appeal with the Texas Seventh District Court of Appeals challenging a district court order that reinstated the eligibility of Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby. The appeal, described by the NCAA as “accelerated,” aims to obtain a definitive ruling before the June 22 deadline for players to apply for the NFL supplemental draft.
Judge Ken Curry’s four-page decision, which restored Sorsby’s eligibility and imposed a two-game suspension, provided limited analysis, according to court filings. The NCAA’s appeal seeks a review of that reasoning.
Sorsby’s case stems from a violation of NCAA gambling rules while he was on the Indiana University roster, a matter that has drawn significant public attention. The outcome of the appeal could determine whether additional sanctions are imposed beyond the existing suspension.
