UFC CEO Dana White says future White House events unlikely after costly Freedom 250 show

Summary

UFC chief Dana White confirmed the organization will not repeat a White House-based fight night, citing logistical challenges and a $60 million expense for the Freedom 250 event.

UFC chief Dana White announced that the organization will not stage another fight night at the White House, describing the Freedom 250 event as a one-off due to weather concerns, construction logistics and the high cost of the production. The company reportedly covered about $60 million for the outdoor show held on the South Lawn to mark President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The event featured a seven-card lineup, with lightweight champion Justin Gaethje defeating Ilia Topuria to claim the title and earn $825,000 in bonuses. Gaethje also met President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump after the fight. President Trump remained for the entire program and praised the night on his social-media platform.

White said the event achieved its business goals, noting strong merchandise sales and subscription numbers, but emphasized that the logistical and financial hurdles made a repeat unlikely. > "It was an amazing experience, this was a one-of-one. It will never happen again," White said at a news conference.

Other notable moments included a tribute to the Marine Band, first responders and military personnel, as well as a brief incident in which middleweight champion Sean Strickland was escorted from a watch party by police. Heavyweight fighter Josh Hokit made an unfounded claim about former First Lady Michelle Obama during the broadcast.

Looking ahead, UFC will return to a traditional arena for its next major event, UFC 329, featuring a fight with Conor McGregor in Las Vegas.
