Trump celebrates 80th birthday with UFC matches on White House lawn

President Donald Trump turned 80 on Sunday and marked the milestone with a birthday celebration on the White House lawn that featured a temporary UFC octagon and seating for the occasion. The structure, erected after recent construction that included demolition of part of the East Wing, was described by Trump earlier this month as "quite attractive" and he suggested it might remain in place.

The event, postponed because of weather, opened with a military flyover while Trump and UFC CEO Dana White observed from the venue. The two then walked from the Oval Office to the octagon, a moment that was broadcast live and streamed online.

During the fights, lightweight Mauricio Ruffy defeated Michael Chandler and subsequently proposed to his girlfriend, Nadine.

The celebration contrasted with the reception Trump received at a recent NBA Finals appearance, where audience reactions were less favorable.
