UFC Holds First White House Fight Event on President Trump's 80th Birthday
The White House will host a UFC fight card on Sunday, marking the nation's 250th anniversary and President Trump's 80th birthday, despite a lawsuit seeking to block the event.
The White House South Lawn will host a United Fighting Championship (UFC) event on Sunday evening, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday and the United States’ 250th anniversary. The main card, scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern Time, will feature a lightweight championship bout between Georgia-born Ilia Topuria and American Justin Gaethje and will be streamed on Paramount+.
Approximately 5,000 guests, including military personnel, are expected on the South Lawn, while additional spectators can view the fights from the nearby Ellipse. The event is part of a series of celebrations organized by Freedom 250, a group aligned with the Trump administration, that also includes a state fair and a Grand Prix race.
Two Virginia residents filed a lawsuit alleging that the UFC was granted unrestricted access to the White House for a for-profit event. A federal judge denied a preliminary injunction, noting that the plaintiffs filed too late and had not demonstrated concrete harm. The Justice Department, represented by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, argued the case was an attempt to impose personal preferences on a national celebration.
UFC executive Dana White, a longtime associate of the president, has said the event has been in planning for nearly a year. The venue will feature a 92-foot rigging structure, dubbed the “Claw,” that will be removed after the fights.
Topuria, who is unbeaten at 17-0, expressed enthusiasm for the historic setting, while Gaethje, the underdog, has engaged in a public exchange with his opponent over personal remarks. Both fighters declined to detail their strategies ahead of the bout.
The fight card will begin at 5 p.m. ET with preliminary matches, leading up to the headline lightweight championship fight later in the evening.
