SpaceX Aims for Historic IPO, Potentially Making Elon Musk a Trillionaire

SpaceX has announced plans to go public this month, aiming to raise as much as $75 billion in what could be the largest initial public offering (IPO) in history. The company, formally known as Space Exploration Technologies Corp., intends to offer 555,555,555 shares priced at $135 each, which would set its market value at approximately $1.77 trillion.

If successful, this IPO would surpass the $26 billion raised by Saudi Aramco in 2019. With this valuation, Elon Musk, SpaceX's CEO and chairman, could see his net worth increase significantly, potentially making him the first trillionaire. Currently, Musk's wealth is estimated at $826 billion, with his holdings in SpaceX valued at around $542 billion based on previous evaluations.

Despite the ambitious plans for a major market debut, SpaceX has reported substantial operational losses, totaling $2.6 billion last year on $18.7 billion in revenue. The company has described its strategy in an unconventional IPO document, outlining plans for lunar missions and a permanent human settlement on Mars as threats to humanity loom.

Musk's vision also extends to integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into SpaceX's future, predicting potential AI revenue in the trillions. However, the practicalities of his AI ambitions, such as establishing space-based data centers, remain uncertain.

As SpaceX prepares for its Nasdaq debut under the ticker 'SPCX', the market is also anticipating IPO submissions from other tech giants such as Anthropic and possibly OpenAI, marking a significant period of renewed activity in public markets.
