Golden Knights Overcome Early Deficit to Beat Hurricanes in Game 1 of Stanley Cup Final
In a thrilling Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, the Vegas Golden Knights rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4, taking a 1-0 series lead.
The Vegas Golden Knights made a remarkable comeback in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, overcoming an early two-goal deficit to secure a 5-4 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes. Nikolaj Ehlers initially put the Hurricanes ahead, scoring just 25 seconds into the game and again with 7:52 left in the first period, giving Carolina a 2-0 advantage.
However, the Golden Knights responded with three consecutive goals, leveling the game at 3-3 by the end of the second period. Although Carolina managed to tie the game again in the third, Tomas Hertl's goal with 3:24 remaining ultimately clinched the win for Vegas. Despite an empty-net attempt by the Hurricanes in the final minutes, they could not find the net again, allowing the Golden Knights to take the series lead.
This loss marked only the second defeat for the Hurricanes in the postseason, following a sweep through the first two rounds and a winning streak after dropping Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights have been on a dominant run, winning their last seven playoff games after a surprising sweep of the Colorado Avalanche in the previous round.
Shea Theodore led Vegas with one goal and two assists, while Ehlers was the standout for Carolina, scoring two goals and assisting on another. Goaltenders Frederik Andersen of the Hurricanes and Carter Hart of the Golden Knights faced significant challenges, as both teams struggled with puck control, resulting in multiple goals from turnovers. The teams will meet again for Game 2 on Tuesday night in Raleigh.
