Ukrainian officials report that overnight missile and drone strikes from Russia have killed at least 18 people and wounded dozens more in various cities, including the capital, Kyiv. The assault, characterized by the use of 656 drones and 73 missiles, targeted major urban areas, particularly Kyiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainian air defense reportedly intercepted 40 missiles and 602 drones during the attack.
Kyiv's Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that six fatalities occurred in the capital, with at least 66 others injured, among them children. He urged residents to seek shelter, as air defense forces responded to ongoing threats. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Governor Oleksandr Ganzha reported 12 deaths and 36 injuries, while Kharkiv's Mayor Ihor Terekhov noted that 15 individuals were wounded in his city.
Anticipating the strikes, many residents had taken precautions, leading to overcrowded shelters and subways overnight. Concerning the assault, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga suggested that the attacks showcased Russian desperation, stating that President Vladimir Putin resorts to bombing civilians as his forces struggle on the front lines.
