Multiple Residential Buildings Damaged in Kyiv Amid Russian Strikes

A significant wave of Russian drone and missile strikes targeted Kyiv early Tuesday, leading to extensive damage to residential areas and fears of casualties. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that an apartment block in the Podilsky district partially collapsed due to what has been described as a "double tap" strike.

"Preliminary reports indicate that there are people trapped under the rubble," wrote Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv city military administration, on Telegram. The attacks impacted multiple buildings across the city, igniting fires and damaging vehicles. Notably, a missile struck a 24-story residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district and debris from a strike affected a nine-story building in Podil, causing additional damage.

Tkachenko confirmed that at least one person was killed and 20 were injured in the attacks, which also caused power outages in three districts and prompted a swift response from emergency services. Russian strikes in other regions of Ukraine resulted in at least four fatalities and 24 injuries, affecting cities like Dnipro and Kharkiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously cautioned citizens about a potential "massive" Russian strike, stating that intelligence warnings regarding attacks were still valid. Additionally, Russian state media indicated that systematic strikes against military facilities in Kyiv had begun, accompanied by a warning from Russia’s Foreign Ministry for foreign nationals, including diplomatic staff, to evacuate the city.

This escalation of hostilities coincides with Ukraine's increased operations against Russian oil assets, with Zelensky claiming that Ukrainian forces have targeted 15 Russian oil refineries, significantly affecting their refining capacity. This situation is ongoing and further updates are expected.
