Ukraine intensifies drone strikes on supply routes to Crimea, causing fuel shortages
Ukrainian forces have increased drone attacks on trucks, trains and bridges that transport supplies to Crimea, leading to gasoline shortages on the peninsula.
Ukraine has stepped up the use of attack drones to target transport corridors that deliver goods to Crimea, prompting fuel shortages and longer queues at gas stations on the peninsula. In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have struck numerous trucks and trains traveling along the main highway to Crimea and have damaged bridges that link the region to Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine.
The attacks have been widely shared on social media, where videos show fuel trucks ablaze after drone strikes and motorists waiting in long lines for gasoline. One photographer reported spending eight hours in a night-time queue to obtain fuel.
Russian officials have previously described the annexation of Crimea in 2014 as a legal act, while Kyiv frames the current operations as a “logistics lockdown” aimed at disrupting Russian supply lines.
