Ukraine Claims Capability to Target Russian Military Logistics Across Occupied Territories

Summary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the country can now target Russian military logistics in occupied regions, with 15 oil refineries reported hit this year.

Ukraine has significantly increased its operational reach against Russian military logistics in occupied territories, as stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky on June 1. He highlighted that Ukrainian forces are now able to strike Russian supply routes across much of the regions under occupation, indicating that few safe transportation routes remain for Russian forces in the south and east.

Zelensky's remarks followed confirmation from the Third Army Corps, which reported drone control over essential Russian supply lines in occupied Luhansk Oblast. Brigadier General Andrii Biletskyi stated that key locations including Luhansk, Starobilsk, Alchevsk, Brianka, and Kadiivka are now under the surveillance of unmanned aerial vehicles operated by Ukrainian forces.

The president emphasized the ongoing campaign targeting military assets within a range of 20 to 300 kilometers from the front lines, noting that this has led to substantial fuel shortages in Crimea and other occupied regions. Between January and May, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck 15 oil refineries, which Zelensky described as a considerable achievement. He mentioned that the restrictions on gasoline sales in Crimea highlight the fuel crisis, as Russia itself has imposed bans on fuel exports, significantly impacting its oil refining capacity.
