Knicks rally to erase 27-point deficit, record NBA Finals comeback

De’Aaron Fox’s mid-range jumper early in the third quarter extended the Spurs’ lead to 29 points, but a 13-0 run by the Knicks cut the margin to 16 with five minutes left in the period. The Spurs briefly stretched the lead to 20 points early in the fourth, yet the Knicks responded with a 20-4 surge that reduced the gap to four points with just over three minutes remaining.

Guard Jose Alvarado hit a three-pointer with 9:16 left, and Jalen Brunson added a long three with 2:20 to go, bringing the score to a single-point deficit. After a series of missed shots and turnovers by both sides, the Knicks took a 105-104 lead with 1:22 left after Brunson’s left-hand floater. San Antonio briefly reclaimed a one-point advantage, but missed free throws and a turnover gave New York another chance.

In the final seconds, the Knicks executed a play that resulted in a foul on Alvarado, who earned two free throws. After a timeout, Brunson attempted a three-pointer that rimmed out, and the ball was rebounded by the Spurs. De’Aaron Fox drove for a layup, but OG Anunoby blocked the attempt and passed to Alvarado, who was fouled at half-court with 5.7 seconds remaining. The Knicks called a timeout, and after an inbound pass, Brunson launched a deep three that hit the rim and dropped in as time expired, sealing the victory.

The win leaves the Knicks one game away from a championship, while the Spurs’ 27-point halftime lead remains the largest blown lead in Finals history.
