The game, held at Frost Bank Center, saw Brunson initially struggle, sustaining a knee injury from a collision and later rolling his ankle. Nevertheless, he found his rhythm, scoring 13 of his points in the crucial final minutes, helping the Knicks establish a lead they maintained to the end.
Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs' standout, notched 26 points and 12 rebounds, but his performance was marred by inefficient shooting, as he ended the night with a 6-for-21 field goal record. The Spurs witnessed a breakdown in their execution in the second half, failing to capitalize on a 14-point lead during the third quarter.
Other notable performances included Karl-Anthony Towns with 18 points for the Knicks and Landry Shamet contributing 13 points from the bench. The Knicks are now just three wins away from claiming their first NBA championship since 1973. The two teams will meet again for Game 2 in San Antonio on Friday evening.
