Additional Charges Filed Against Bus Driver in Fatal Virginia Crash

Resumen

Jing Sheng Dong, the bus driver involved in a Virginia crash that resulted in five fatalities, has been indicted on three additional counts of involuntary manslaughter and one misdemeanor charge for reckless driving.

The bus driver involved in a tragic crash on a Virginia highway that claimed five lives has been indicted on further charges. Jing Sheng Dong, 48, from Staten Island, New York, now faces three new felony counts of involuntary manslaughter, alongside a misdemeanor for reckless driving, as confirmed by Stafford Commonwealth District Attorney Eric Olsen.

Dong was initially charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter following the incident on May 30, which left nearly 40 others injured, including himself. He remains hospitalized and will be moved to Rappahannock Regional Jail upon release.

Preliminary investigations by Virginia State Police indicate that traffic on the southbound lane of Interstate 95 was slowing for a work zone when Dong allegedly failed to reduce speed, crashing into six vehicles around 2:35 a.m. The bus, operated by E&P Travel, was transporting passengers from New York to North Carolina. The collision began when the bus struck a Chevrolet Suburban, which then collided with an Acura SUV and other vehicles.

Among the deceased were a family of four from Greenfield, Massachusetts: 45-year-old Dmitri Doncev, his wife Ecterina, 13-year-old daughter Emily, and 7-year-old son Mark. They were en route to a wedding in South Carolina. The fifth victim, identified as 25-year-old Priscilla Mafalda from Worcester, Massachusetts, was a passenger in the Suburban.
