Blue Origin Rocket Explodes During Test in Florida

Summary

A Blue Origin rocket exploded on its launch pad in Florida during a hotfire test, with no injuries reported among personnel. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.

A Blue Origin rocket exploded at Cape Canaveral, Florida, during a hotfire test around 21:00 local time. The explosion created a large fireball, but all personnel have been accounted for and there is no threat to the public, according to Brevard County Emergency Management.

In a social media post, Blue Origin acknowledged that it had "experienced an anomaly" and emphasized their commitment to rebuilding and continuing their mission. A company representative noted, "It's too early to know the root cause but we're already working to find it. Very rough day, but we'll rebuild whatever needs rebuilding and get back to flying. It's worth it."

Emergency responders are on-site, and the U.S. Space Force is collaborating with Blue Origin to analyze data from the incident. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman remarked on the challenges of spaceflight, stating, "Spaceflight is unforgiving, and developing new heavy-lift launch capability is extraordinarily difficult. We will work with our partners to support a thorough investigation of this anomaly."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed it was aware of the situation, clarifying that the test was outside the scope of FAA licensed activities and stating there were no impacts on air traffic. This incident follows a previous grounding of Blue Origin's new rocket last month due to an ongoing investigation related to a satellite launch mishap.
