Nvidia Reports Record Q1 Revenue and Expands Investments in Startups
Nvidia announced record revenue of $81.6 billion for the first quarter, driven by strong data center sales, and revealed a significant increase in investments in privately held companies.
Nvidia reported record revenue of $81.6 billion for the first quarter ending April 26, 2026, marking a 20% increase from the previous quarter and an 85% rise year-over-year. The data center segment contributed $75.2 billion, up 92% from the same period last year.
The company authorized an additional $80 billion for share repurchases and increased its quarterly cash dividend from $0.01 to $0.25 per share.
Nvidia projected revenue of $91 billion for the next quarter, indicating a 12% growth.
Regarding exports to China, CFO Colette Kress stated that while H200 chips have been approved for U.S. export, the company has yet to generate revenue from these sales and remains uncertain about future imports into China.
The company's investments in privately held companies nearly doubled between January and April, increasing from $22 billion to $43 billion, primarily due to $18.5 billion in purchases during the quarter. This figure excludes recent investments in publicly traded companies and future commitments, such as the $30 billion investment in OpenAI announced in February.
CEO Jensen Huang highlighted the company's expanding partnerships, noting a significant buildout with Anthropic. "The amount of capacity we're going to bring online for Anthropic this year and next year is going to be quite significant," Huang told investors.
