Thunder Even Series with 122-113 Victory Over Spurs in Game 2

Résumé

Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the San Antonio Spurs 122-113 in Game 2, tying the Western Conference Finals at 1-1.

The Oklahoma City Thunder secured a 122-113 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, leveling the Western Conference Finals at one game apiece. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 30 points and nine assists, rebounding from a less effective performance in the series opener. Alex Caruso contributed 17 points off the bench, while Chet Holmgren added 13 points. The Thunder's bench outscored the Spurs' reserves 57-25 and capitalized on turnovers with a 27-10 advantage in points off turnovers.

Thunder coach Mark Daigneault expressed confidence in his team's improvement, stating, "I thought we all played better. I had a quiet confidence about that. I didn't know if we'd win or lose the game, but I was pretty sure after watching Game 1 and knowing our team that we were going to come out and play better tonight."

For the Spurs, Stephon Castle scored 25 points, Devin Vassell added 22, and Victor Wembanyama recorded a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds, along with six assists and four blocks.

The game saw injuries on both sides. Thunder guard Jalen Williams, who had previously missed six playoff games due to a left hamstring strain, exited in the first half with a recurrence of the issue. The Spurs, already without All-Star guard De'Aaron Fox due to ankle soreness, lost his replacement, Dylan Harper, to a right leg injury in the third quarter.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson acknowledged the challenges posed by the injuries, noting, "Obviously this team is as good as anybody at turning you over, so when you're down some of your primary creators and initiators it causes a little bit of an extra strain, whether that's who to play, what to play, what to run, etc., etc. We'll just have to be sharper in that area because it's tough fully loaded against these guys."

The series now shifts to San Antonio for Game 3 on Friday.
