Southern California Wildfires Cause Evacuations and Property Damage
The Ventura County Fire Department responded to a wind-driven wildfire in Simi Valley, California, that rapidly spread across dry brush and led to mandatory evacuations. The fire damaged multiple structures and threatened homes and infrastructure as it expanded. Firefighters faced challenging wind conditions while working to contain the blaze, which grew to cover 836 acres.
Concurrently, wildfires on Santa Rosa Island also prompted evacuations and property damage. Authorities continued efforts to control both fires amid the difficult conditions reported by the National Park Service and local fire officials.
