Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke has died at the age of 29, the team and his agency, Priority Sports, announced on Tuesday. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke," the Grizzlies stated. "Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

Priority Sports also expressed their sorrow, noting Clarke's positive influence on those around him.

"He was so loved by all of us here, and everyone whose life he touched," the agency said. "He was the gentlest soul who was the first to ... ."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver acknowledged Clarke's contributions to the league.

"As one of the longest-tenured members of the Grizzlies, Brandon was a beloved teammate and leader who played the game with enormous passion and grit," Silver said. "Our thoughts and sympathies are with Brandon's family, friends, and the Grizzlies organization."

Clarke was selected 21st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Gonzaga University. He spent his entire seven-year NBA career with the Grizzlies, earning All-Rookie honors in his first season. Over his career, he averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Injuries limited Clarke's participation in recent seasons. He played in just six games during the 2023-24 season due to a torn Achilles and appeared in only two games in the 2025-26 season because of calf and knee issues.

Clarke's passing comes shortly after an April 1 arrest in Arkansas, where he faced charges including speeding and possession of a controlled substance.

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Clarke played college basketball at San Jose State and Gonzaga before entering the NBA.

The Grizzlies and the NBA community continue to mourn the loss of Brandon Clarke, remembering his contributions on and off the court.
