SpaceX Prepares for Starship V3 Test Flight Amid Safety Concerns

SpaceX is scheduled to launch its upgraded Starship V3 megarocket on May 21, 2026, from its Starbase facility in South Texas. This mission, designated Flight 12, marks the first test flight of the third-generation Starship, which features significant enhancements aimed at improving reusability and performance. The Starship V3 stands approximately 408 feet tall and is designed to carry up to 150 metric tons of cargo into space. The test flight is expected to last just over an hour, during which the Super Heavy booster will attempt a water landing in the Gulf of Mexico, and the Starship upper stage will deploy 22 Starlink simulator satellites before splashing down in the Indian Ocean.
