The U.S. State Department plans to release limited-edition passports featuring President Donald Trump's image to commemorate the nation's 250th anniversary.

The U.S. State Department has announced plans to issue a limited edition of commemorative passports featuring President Donald Trump's image, marking the first time a sitting president's likeness will appear in the travel document. This initiative is part of the celebrations for America's 250th anniversary.

Between 25,000 and 30,000 of these special passports will be available to applicants at the Washington, D.C., passport office starting shortly before July 4. The design includes President Trump's portrait over a gold imprimatur of his signature on an interior page. The cover will display "United States of America" in bold gold print at the top and "Passport" at the bottom, a reversal of the standard cover design. Additionally, a small gold laminate American flag with the number 250 encircled by stars will adorn the back cover.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated, "As the United States celebrates America's 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. passports to commemorate this historic occasion." He emphasized that these passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features as standard U.S. passports.

Applicants visiting the Washington office in person will receive the commemorative passport by default. However, those preferring the standard version can obtain it by applying online or at other passport offices.

This move is part of broader efforts to incorporate President Trump's image into national symbols during the semiquincentennial celebrations. Plans are also underway to feature his likeness on a gold commemorative coin and to add his signature to new U.S. paper currency, both unprecedented for a sitting president.

Current U.S. passports include depictions of historical figures such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln on Mount Rushmore, as well as images of the Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell. The addition of President Trump's image marks a significant departure from these traditional designs.
