American YouTuber Johnny Somali Sentenced to Six Months in South Korean Prison
Johnny Somali, an American YouTuber, has been sentenced to six months in a South Korean prison for multiple offenses, including public disturbances and distributing fabricated sexual images.
American YouTuber Johnny Somali, whose real name is Ramsey Khalid Ismael, has been sentenced to six months in a South Korean prison following a series of public disturbances and legal violations.
The Seoul Western District Court convicted Ismael on charges including obstruction of business and distributing fabricated sexual images. The court also imposed a 20-day detention and a five-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents, and people with disabilities.
In October 2024, Ismael uploaded a video of himself kissing and dancing in front of the "Statue of Peace," a monument in Seoul commemorating Korean women forced into sexual slavery during Japan's colonial rule. This act sparked significant public outrage.
Additional charges stemmed from incidents where Ismael caused disturbances in public spaces, including playing loud music and dancing on buses and subways, and creating disruptions at a convenience store in Seoul's Mapo District.
The court stated that Ismael "repeatedly committed crimes against unspecified members of the public to generate profit via YouTube," highlighting the severity of his actions.
Ismael was taken into custody immediately following the sentencing.
