Rory McIlroy entered the Masters Tournament at Augusta National aiming to become the fourth golfer to win back-to-back titles after his previous victory completed his career Grand Slam. He set a tournament record by establishing a six-shot lead after the second round with a score of 65, maintaining this advantage into the third round at 12-under-par.

However, McIlroy's lead diminished as Cameron Young surged, tying for the lead entering the final round. Ultimately, McIlroy secured his second consecutive Masters title by finishing one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler, joining an elite group of golfers with back-to-back wins at Augusta National.
