China Resumed Select Ties with Taiwan After Opposition Leader's Visit
Kuomintang Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun undertook a six-day visit to China with the goal of fostering peaceful cross-strait relations amid rising military and diplomatic tensions. During her visit, she met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, marking the first such meeting in a decade. Their discussions reaffirmed the 'One China' policy and emphasized the importance of dialogue.
Following the meeting, China announced plans to resume select direct flights and lift bans on certain Taiwanese imports, signaling a partial thaw in relations. This development reflected efforts by both sides to ease tensions and promote communication despite ongoing challenges in cross-strait dynamics.
