Ye's Wireless Festival Headline Sparks Controversy and Sponsor Withdrawals
Rapper Ye's upcoming headline at London's Wireless Festival faces backlash over past antisemitic remarks, leading to sponsor withdrawals and political criticism.
Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is scheduled to headline all three nights of London's Wireless Festival from July 10 to 12, 2026. This announcement has ignited significant controversy due to Ye's history of antisemitic remarks and actions, including releasing a song titled "Heil Hitler" and promoting swastika-themed merchandise.
In response to the backlash, major sponsors such as Pepsi and Diageo have withdrawn their support from the festival. A Pepsi spokesperson stated, "Pepsi has decided to withdraw its sponsorship of Wireless Festival."
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed concern over Ye's booking, describing it as "deeply concerning" and emphasizing that "antisemitism in any form is abhorrent and must be confronted firmly."
Ye has offered to meet with members of the U.K.'s Jewish community to demonstrate his commitment to change, stating, "I know words aren't enough — I'll have to show change through my actions."
Despite the mounting criticism, Festival Republic's managing director, Melvin Benn, defended the decision to retain Ye as the headliner, urging people to offer the performer "forgiveness and hope."
The situation remains fluid as discussions continue among festival organizers, sponsors, and community leaders regarding Ye's participation in the event.
