Three Charged with Arson in London Ambulance Attack

Resumen

Two men and a teenager have been charged with arson following the destruction of four ambulances belonging to a Jewish volunteer service in London.

Two men and a 17-year-old boy have been charged with arson in connection with the destruction of four ambulances belonging to Hatzola Northwest, a Jewish volunteer emergency service, in Golders Green, London. The incident occurred on March 23, when the vehicles were set ablaze, causing explosions from onboard oxygen cylinders and damaging nearby properties. No injuries were reported.

The suspects, identified as Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, and a 17-year-old dual British-Pakistani national, were arrested at separate addresses in east London. They have been charged with arson with intent to endanger life and are scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday. The Metropolitan Police stated that, at this stage, the attack has not been declared a terrorist incident.

The arson attack has drawn widespread condemnation. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described it as a "deeply shocking antisemitic arson attack," while Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis called the targeting of the volunteer service "particularly sickening." In response to community concerns, Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams announced increased police presence in Golders Green and other areas, including highly visible armed patrols, to deter further incidents.

Hatzola Northwest, established in 1994, provides emergency medical services to the local community. The government has pledged to cover the cost of replacing the destroyed ambulances and will loan vehicles to the service in the interim.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining a claim of responsibility from a group with potential links to Iran. However, the authenticity of this claim has not been confirmed, and the incident has not been classified as terrorism at this time.
