Artemis II Mission to Feature First Canadian Astronaut on Lunar Voyage

The Artemis II mission, scheduled for early 2026, will mark the first crewed lunar voyage since 1972. The four-member crew comprises NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen. Hansen's participation signifies the first time a non-American astronaut will journey to the Moon, highlighting the strong partnership between Canada and the United States in space exploration.

The mission aims to test the capabilities of NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft, paving the way for future lunar landings. The crew will embark on a 10-day journey, traveling approximately 4,700 miles beyond the Moon's far side—the farthest any humans have traveled.

Hansen, a former fighter pilot and experienced astronaut, expressed his enthusiasm for the mission, stating, "I believe that it will create opportunities that we haven’t even imagined yet, and we’ve already imagined some incredible ones."

The Artemis II mission represents a significant step in NASA's Artemis program, which aims to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon and eventually facilitate crewed missions to Mars.
