NASA Prepares Artemis II for April Launch Following Repairs
NASA is set to launch Artemis II, its first crewed lunar mission in over 50 years, as early as April 1, 2026, following successful repairs to the Space Launch System.
NASA has cleared the Artemis II mission for launch as early as April 1, 2026, following successful repairs to the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. The mission will mark the first crewed lunar flight since 1972, carrying four astronauts on a 10-day journey around the Moon and back. The crew comprises NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen.
The SLS rocket underwent repairs after a helium-flow issue was identified during a fueling test. With the issue resolved, NASA is proceeding with final preparations for the mission.
Artemis II will serve as a critical test of NASA's deep space exploration capabilities, paving the way for future missions aimed at establishing a sustainable human presence on the Moon and eventually Mars.
