Ghana to Double Security Services Recruitment to 40,000 Over Four Years

Résumé

President John Dramani Mahama has directed an increase in security services recruitment from 20,000 to 40,000 personnel over the next four years, emphasizing transparency and fairness in the process.

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed an expansion of recruitment into Ghana's security services, increasing the target from 20,000 to 40,000 personnel over the next four years. This directive follows a high-level meeting with security chiefs, the Minister for the Interior, and the Acting Minister for Defence to review the ongoing recruitment process.

The President emphasized the importance of integrity in the recruitment exercise, directing security agency leaders to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the process. The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the President, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, and the National Security Coordinator. Heads of various security agencies, such as the Inspector General of Police and the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, were also present.

This decision comes amid public criticism following revelations that the Interior Ministry sold over 500,000 recruitment vouchers, despite having the capacity to employ only 5,000 personnel in the current phase. The President's directive aims to address these concerns by significantly increasing recruitment numbers over the coming years.
