Hezbollah Launches Rockets and Drones at Northern Israel Amid Rising Tensions
Hezbollah's recent attacks on northern Israel included multiple rocket and drone strikes, prompting Israel to prepare for increased military engagement in southern Lebanon. No injuries were reported as the Israeli military retaliated with strikes on Hezbollah positions.
Hezbollah launched a series of rockets and drones at northern Israel, with sirens sounding in communities such as Safed, Kiryat Shmona, and Karmiel. The Israeli military reported that while some rockets were intercepted, others landed in open areas, causing no injuries. In response to the attacks, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is preparing for a potential escalation as its operations in southern Lebanon have intensified.
The IDF confirmed that one drone strike hit a military zone near Shomera, while two others were intercepted. A video captured in Nahariya showed rockets impacting the Mediterranean Sea, causing beachgoers to seek shelter. Despite the increased rocket fire, the Home Front Command has not altered its guidelines for civilians. The military stated, "Following the expansion of IDF operations in southern Lebanon, we are preparing for the possibility of fire from Lebanese territory, focused on the northern region."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disclosed that IDF troops have crossed the Litani River, marking deeper military engagement beyond a previously established defensive line designed to limit Hezbollah's influence. Former prime minister Naftali Bennett criticized the government's strategy, asserting, "The government is returning us to the contemptible policy of containment," calling for a decisive military response. Opposition leaders echoed these sentiments, expressing frustration over the government's handling of the situation.
On the operational front, the IDF struck a Hezbollah artillery command center, noting that secondary explosions suggested the presence of weapons. Reports of Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon indicated further escalation, with local sources claiming fatalities and injuries among Lebanese troops.
In the backdrop of these developments, Lebanese officials expressed disappointment over recent US-brokered talks with Israel at the Pentagon, which they felt failed to achieve any significant progress toward a ceasefire. The negotiations aimed to address longstanding security issues, including Hezbollah's disarmament and the potential for normalized relations between Israel and Lebanon. As tensions remain high, the region is poised for continued conflict amidst these unresolved disputes.
