On April 8, 2026, the Israel Defense Forces launched a significant coordinated attack on Hezbollah positions across Lebanon, resulting in substantial casualties and destruction of key infrastructure.

On April 8, 2026, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) executed a large-scale coordinated assault on Hezbollah targets throughout Lebanon, marking the most extensive operation since the onset of 'Operation Roaring Lion.' The strikes, carried out over a brief period, targeted over 100 Hezbollah command centers, military infrastructures, and command-and-control sites in Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon.

According to a senior IDF intelligence official, the operation resulted in the elimination of approximately 250 Hezbollah fighters and the destruction of numerous key command centers. The official noted that every major strategic war-fighting area of Hezbollah was significantly impacted during the attacks.

The IDF reported that the targets included intelligence command centers and central headquarters used by Hezbollah for directing and planning attacks against IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians. Additionally, infrastructure related to Hezbollah's firepower and naval units, as well as assets of the Radwan Force and the Aerial (127) unit, were struck.

Lebanese authorities reported significant civilian casualties as a result of the strikes. The Lebanese Health Ministry stated that at least 182 people were killed and nearly 900 wounded, marking the deadliest single day in the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah conflict.

The IDF emphasized that the operation was based on precise intelligence and was meticulously planned over weeks by the IDF Operations Directorate, the Intelligence Directorate, the Israeli Air Force, and the Northern Command, aiming to deepen the damage inflicted on the Hezbollah terrorist organization.

The strikes occurred shortly after a ceasefire was declared in the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. However, Israel stated that the truce did not apply to Hezbollah in Lebanon, a stance disputed by Iran and mediators like Pakistan.

Lebanon's leaders condemned the attacks, calling them a breach of international law. Hezbollah had not retaliated immediately but indicated it had not committed to the ceasefire, citing ongoing Israeli aggression.

In response to the Beirut attacks, Iran halted oil tanker movements through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The broader conflict has resulted in more than 1,700 deaths and displaced over a million people in Lebanon.
