During a segment on Fox News' 'America's Newsroom,' anchor Bill Hemmer questioned National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett about the recent surge in gas prices, which have risen to a national average of approximately $4.09 per gallon, up from $3.11 a month ago. Hassett attributed the increase to the ongoing conflict in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil transport. He noted that the administration has released 172 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to mitigate the impact. However, when Hassett began to blame former President Joe Biden for the current situation, Hemmer interjected, emphasizing the need to focus on present circumstances and the economy's capacity to handle rising oil prices. Hassett reassured that the high gas prices are a 'temporary phenomenon' and expected to normalize soon. The U.S., alongside Israel, initiated military actions against Iran on February 28, targeting over 12,300 sites, according to U.S. Central Command. President Donald Trump highlighted the operation's success in a recent national address, stating, 'Never in the history of warfare has an enemy suffered such clear and devastating large-scale losses in a matter of weeks.'
