Nothing Unveils Phone 4a Pro with Enhanced Design and Camera Features

Résumé

Nothing has introduced the Phone 4a Pro, a mid-range smartphone featuring a redesigned Glyph lighting system, AI imaging tools, and a 50MP main camera.

London-based tech company Nothing has announced the launch of its latest mid-range smartphone, the Phone 4a Pro. The device showcases a refined design, moving away from the fully translucent rear panels of previous models. Instead, the transparent design is now primarily limited to the camera module, while the rest of the rear panel adopts a more traditional finish. The phone is available in black, silver, and orange color options.

The Phone 4a Pro introduces an updated Glyph lighting system, now integrated into the transparent camera module housing rather than spanning the entire back panel. The rear panel itself has transitioned to an aluminum construction, replacing the glass used in earlier models.

A significant highlight of the Phone 4a Pro is its camera system. The device features a 50-megapixel main camera with a Type 1/1.56 sensor sourced from Sony, paired with a 24mm equivalent F/1.9 lens. It also includes a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with an 80mm equivalent focal length and a Type 1/2.75 sensor, supporting up to 140x digital zoom. Additionally, there's an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera with a 15mm equivalent lens and a 120-degree field of view.

The Phone 4a Pro utilizes Nothing’s TrueLens Engine 4 imaging pipeline, combining multi-frame RAW processing with 12-layer AI segmentation to enhance image detail and dynamic range. The Ultra XDR mode captures up to 13 RAW images at varying exposures, merging them into a single frame to reveal more natural highlight and shadow details. The system also supports extended 4K video recording at 30 frames per second, maintaining detail across challenging lighting conditions.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor, the Phone 4a Pro features an eight-core chipset with a prime core running up to 2.8GHz, three performance cores up to 2.4GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.8GHz. Graphics are handled by the Qualcomm Adreno 722 GPU. The device boasts a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness up to 5000 nits for HDR content. A 32-megapixel front-facing camera is also included for selfies and video calls.

Measuring 7.95mm in thickness, the Phone 4a Pro features an aluminum body that aids in heat distribution during intensive tasks. It carries an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, tested to withstand water immersion up to 25 centimeters for approximately 25 minutes.

The Phone 4a Pro is priced at $499 for the configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while a higher-end version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is available for $599. Pre-orders will open on March 13, with shipping scheduled to begin on March 27.
