Nothing Unveils Colourful Phone (4a) Series and AI Initiatives

Résumé

London-based tech company Nothing has launched its Phone (4a) series, introducing vibrant colours and AI features, with plans for an IPO by 2028.

London-based technology company Nothing has launched its latest mid-range smartphones, the Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro, introducing vibrant colour options and enhanced artificial intelligence (AI) features. The Phone (4a) is available in pink, blue, black, and white, while the Phone (4a) Pro comes in pink, black, and silver. Both models feature improved cameras and the company's signature glyph interface—a system of LED lights on the back.

The Phone (4a) is priced at £349 or €349, and the Phone (4a) Pro at £499 or €479. Additionally, Nothing has unveiled the Headphone (a), offering up to five days of battery life and integrated physical controls, available in pink, yellow, black, and white, priced at £149, $199, and €159.

CEO Carl Pei stated, "We're giving our portfolio a splash of colour and secondly we're advancing some of our AI initiatives." He emphasized the company's mission to make consumer technology more engaging, noting that smartphones had become "kind of boring" with only incremental improvements.

Founded in 2020 by Pei, who previously co-founded OnePlus, Nothing aims to disrupt the consumer technology market with distinctive designs and innovative features. The company's first phone in 2022 stood out with its transparent design and backlit glyph features.

Nothing has raised $200 million at a $1.3 billion valuation and plans to spin off its India-focused, budget-oriented brand, CMF. Pei mentioned that the company is considering listing CMF but has not made a firm decision. He also indicated that Nothing aims to be IPO-ready by the end of 2028, stating, "Whether we pull the trigger or not really depends on the market conditions and our plans at that time."

The company is focusing on building scale and capability to launch more novel AI-focused products, with Pei highlighting the need to usher in a new wave of human-computer interaction as the next step for Nothing.
