Iran Urges U.S. to Resist Israeli Influence Ahead of Trump-Netanyahu Meeting
Iran cautions the U.S. against allowing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to derail nuclear negotiations, as he prepares to meet President Trump in Washington.
Iran has urged the United States to resist external pressures that could jeopardize ongoing nuclear negotiations, particularly from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is set to meet President Donald Trump in Washington on Wednesday.
Ali Larijani, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stated, "The Americans should think wisely and not allow him, with his posturing, to create the impression before his flight that he is going to the United States to set the framework of nuclear negotiations. They must remain vigilant regarding Israel's destructive role."
Netanyahu's visit aims to advocate for a broader scope in the U.S.-Iran talks, emphasizing the inclusion of Iran's ballistic missile program and its support for regional proxy groups. Before departing for Washington, Netanyahu expressed his intent to "present to the president our approach around our principles on the negotiations."
The Israeli Prime Minister's Office emphasized that any negotiations must address limitations on ballistic missiles and the cessation of support for the Iranian axis.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei commented, "Our negotiating party is America. It is up to America to decide to act independently of the pressures and destructive influences that are detrimental to the region."
These developments follow recent indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran in Oman, marking the first such discussions since the 12-day war in June of the previous year. President Trump described the talks as "very good" and indicated that Iran appeared eager to reach an agreement.
The upcoming Trump-Netanyahu meeting is expected to address these complex issues, with both leaders seeking to influence the direction of U.S.-Iran negotiations.
